STRATFORD, CT (WFSB) -

A former reading tutor for the Chapel Street Elementary School in Stratford was arrested Monday after reports surfaced he was offering some sixth graders money in exchange for kisses.

The tutor, who has been identified as 39-year-old William Stewart, was arrested at his home in Milford and charged with risk of injury to a minor and disorderly conduct.

"She came home and said he was acting weird, he would always touch her shoulder," said one mother. "That my youngest was very pretty and it was just strange"

One mother said her 11-year-old stepdaughter came home from school one day all upset about Stewart because he had a game to try to get her to kiss him.

"It was called like spin the bottle and if the girl's out she would have to kiss him and if she won she would get a gift certificate," said the mother, who wished not to be identified.

According to court records, Stewart also offered some girls $50 for a kiss. When they said no, he upped the payment in $50 increments. In one case offering a student $250 and another time, an iPod.

In one incident with a girl, police said Stewart asked her to play a game called hangman. Stewart chose the word mistletoe and she had to guess each letter. After she guessed the word she believed Stewart expected her to give him a kiss.

Eyewitness News has learned that Stewart no longer works at Chapel Street Elementary School.

The parents told Eyewitness News they did not get much information from the school, but said they were "relived" that Stewart did not work there anymore.

The Stratford Superintendent of Schools and principal as well as Board of Education members have not returned our calls since Tuesday evening.

Stewart, who has no prior convictions of pending criminal cases, is currently out on $25,000 bond.

He is due in Bridgeport Superior Court on June 20.
