LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The man accused of killing his stepdaughter and shooting his twin nieces on North 36th Street early Tuesday morning was arraigned in court Wednesday.

Fred Leach is charged with murder, assault in the first degree, attempted murder and tampering with physical evidence. His brother, Terry Leach, said it's not what meets the eye.

"Something had to happen," said Leach. "First of all, the time frame, he's in bed between 10 and 11 at night. He wakes up early. He wouldn't be up that late."

Judge Jennifer Bryant Wilcox set bond for Fred Leach at $250,000.

Leach said Fred's wife, the victim's mother, had so many problems with her daughter she kicked her out and made her a ward of the state. According to Leach, after Fred's wife passed away from breast cancer nearly two years ago, he felt sorry for his stepdaughter and allowed her to move back in.

Louisville Metro Police said an argument over the house is what led to the shooting.

"He allowed her back in the house," Leach said. "So that was against his wife's wishes in the first place."

Leach also said he knows his brother deserves punishment.

"There has to be some repercussions in place for whatever happened because we have a life lost," said Leach.

He hopes the truth will come forward.
