COVINGTON, KY (FOX19) -

Kenton County Attorney Gary Edmonson sent a letter to Covington leaders asking Commissioner Michelle Williams to vacate her seat.

According to Edmonson, she was convicted in a 1988 Virginia Military Court and was dishonorably discharged for theft. She was charged with a 2008 misdemeanor theft in Boone County, and in 2010, she was charged with misdemeanor drug possession in Kenton County.

"It is my opinion the office is vacated immediately as a matter of law," he writes.

The Kentucky Constitution states that anyone convicted of a felony or high misdemeanor cannot hold public office in the Commonwealth.

Williams and her lawyer declined to comment at Tuesday evening's budget meeting. She has been in office since January.
