OLDHAM COUNTY, KY (WAVE) – In the last few days, concerns have poured in about a door-to-door sales representative in Oldham County.

The salesperson is selling educational books, but Oldham County Schools want to stress that the company is not affiliated with the school system.

"We started getting calls from parents, community members, even some of our own staff members who had received the impression from this salesperson, that the salesperson was affiliated with the school district," said Tracy Harris, Oldham County Schools.

The company is called Southwestern Advantage, which is based in Nashville. It received an A+ from the Better Business Bureau and is a direct seller and publisher of educational books and reference products. In a statement, Director of Communications Trey Campbell says, Meghan Burke, who's a three year veteran and is originally from Florida, is staying in Louisville and selling the books.

"We did have several calls where people said she was giving the names of different district officials, different district employees, specific individuals who work for the district and most of those that we have talked to do not know who this person is," said Harris.

Campbell said he believes there was some miscommunication. He said Burke was trained to inform people that she is not part of any schools and she should mention that in her introduction.

In Crestwood, Tasha Thomas said Burke stopped by her house and seemed well informed about the school districts in the area, but she did not get the impression Burke was with a school system.

Burke has her peddler's permit in La Grange and according to Campbell, she is in the process of getting one for the county.

Door-to-door sales representatives in Oldham County must have a Peddler's permit and they should present their permit and ID when they come to your door. If not, you are encouraged to ask to see it.
