Beyco's owner, Joe Sturm, is a Vietnam veteran and said his bond with Beyco was like a brotherhood.

"They figure these dogs saved 150 lives during their deployment," Strum explained.

Beyco died from cancer.

Sturm said after she died he wrapped her in an American flag, kissed her and gave a final salute. An upcoming memorial in Jeffersontown's Veterans Park will include full military honors.
