KY high court overturns murder conviction

ELKTON, KY (WAVE) - The murder conviction of a western Kentucky teenager has been thrown out by Kentucky Supreme Court.

Garrett Dye, 17, will now get a new trial in the killing of his stepsister, Amy Dye, 9, in Todd County. Amy was beaten to death with the handle of a jack.

In making the ruling, the Supreme Court threw out Dye's confession saying police told Dye he would get the death penalty if convicted. Since Dye was under the age of 18, the death penalty was not an option for the prosecution.
