Music, Theater & Beer: Historic OTR brewery being redeveloped

OVER THE RHINE, OH (FOX19) -

A local historic brewery is turning into a performing arts center.

Historically, it's known as the Jackson Brewery, and to some, 'Metal Blast'. After sitting at 208 Mohawk Street in Over-the-Rhine for more than 150 years, it's finally being brought back to life.

Grayscale Cincinnati combines music, theater, and beer into one by redeveloping the Jackson Brewery building into a multi-use performing arts facility and craft brewery.

"I see potential. We looked for so long to find a building that had the characteristics of this building.  It has everything, a lot of history and we want to contribute to its future," Scott Hand, architect for Childress & Cunningham, Inc. and co-founder of Grayscale Cincinnati.

Hand says in addition to the arts center and craft brewery, this 60,000-square-foot building will even serve a music hall. Co-founder Dominic Marino says this project is a long time coming.

"I really think the city needs and deserves the kind of listening space we're going to provide. 300 person music venue. A 192 seat live theater," explained Marino.

Especially, in Over-the-Rhine.

"This resurgence of activity, especially with the young, hip crowd and the night life, we very much want to be a part of that," said Marino.

Developers hope to have the facility completed by spring of 2014. Grayscale Cincinnati is looking to raise $105,000 to complete the project.
