UofL hosting Guitar Foundation of America Convention, Competition

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - If you love classical guitar you will want to stop by the University of Louisville.

The world's leading classical guitarists are at UofL for the Guitar Foundation of America Convention and Competition.

The event is the largest of its kind in North America. As many as 700 guitarists attend the event to learn from the masters and compete for a recording contract and 50-city tour.

Guitar Foundation of America President Martha Masters explained, "It's kind of like the Olympics of classical guitar. To see who's going to win, it's very exciting and it's very intense. And to see the best of the young artists of the world. It's pretty amazing. We haven't had an American winner in 13 years."

Concerts will be held at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in Comstock Concert Hall at the UofL School of Music. Tickets are $30 general admission, $15 students.

The finals will be held on Saturday.
