JCPS offers Summer Reading Institute for homeless children

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A summer reading program is offering children without a home lots of reading along with fun, friends and summer relaxation. 

Jefferson County Public Schools began their Summer Reading Institute program to improve reading skills for children struggling in school. 

According to JCPS one in 10 children attending their schools is considered homeless.

During the month long program, teachers work with small groups of students to teach them using strategies from the Common Core Standards.
