LA GRANGE, KY (WAVE) - Fire engulfed a backside building in Northland Corporation's lumberyard Friday morning in La Grange.
Investigators will determine an official cause at a later date, but one of the owners said there was a gas fired kiln inside the building that removed moisture from the structure.
"Luckily, it was a very small kiln, and it was contained quickly," said Northland owner Orn Gudmondsson. "The fire department did a great job. Nobody was hurt and that's the real blessing."
La Grange Fire and Rescue called in assistance from seven fire departments across Oldham and Henry Counties.
"The fire was very deep seeded. You can spray all you want on it, but you can only penetrate so far," said Major Keith Smith. "Obviously, there was a lot of fuel for the flames so we're glad we could contain it."
The fire was reported at 8:16 a.m. at 2600 KY 146. The highway was closed for more than four hours between Fort Pickens Road and Spann Lane.
