6-year-old girl critically hurt, father charged in crash

ELIZABETHTOWN, KY (WAVE) - A six-year-old Indiana girl was critically injured Thursday night when she was ejected from a car during a crash in Hardin County, according to Kentucky State Police.

The accident happened about 7:30 p.m. Thursday near the 128 mile marker on the Western Kentucky Parkway near Elizabethtown. Police said the driver of a 2004 Acura told them he was eastbound on the Parkway when he swerved to avoid debris in the roadway.

A KSP investigation revealed the driver, Joshua Farrar of Indianapolis, entered the median, over-corrected and hit a tree with the passenger side rear door. His daughter, Mya Farrar, 6, was ejected through the back window upon impact with the tree.

The girl's father said Mya was wearing a seat belt but was not in a booster seat. Police said there was evidence Mya's seatbelt was not buckled and that there was no evidence of debris in the roadway.

Mya was in critical condition Friday at Kosair Children's Hospital. Farrar's 10-year-old son also was inside the car, but he was not injured.

Joshua Farrar was charged with possession of a suspended operator's license, no insurance and a booster seat violation.
