LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Cheers and tears filled a baseball game Sunday as a Louisville father returned home from deployment.

Specialist Derek Kirby surprised his 6-year-old son Brandon during a Germantown little league baseball game in Fern Creek.

Specialist Kirby had been stationed in Africa after being deployed more than 300 days ago. Brandon wouldn't let go of his dad and had to briefly leave the game. He did go back and his dad got to see him get a hit.

"I knew he didn't have a clue," said Specialist Kirby. "I just had butterflies the whole time and once I finally got him in my arms of course the tears were going."

Brandon's dad got into town two days before the reunion but stayed hidden. Coaches and parents helped arrange the first inning surprise.
