A 15-mile stretch of State Route 89 remained closed Tuesday morning due to the Yarnell Hill Fire that claimed the lives of 19 firefighters and destroyed dozens of homes.
The Arizona Department of Transportation said the roadway was closed just north of Congress to south of Kirkland, from milepost 269 to milepost 285.
ADOT recommended drivers head north or south to use US 93 or Interstate 17.
There is no estimated time on when the highway would reopen, an ADOT spokesman said.
