PHOENIX (AP) -

An Arizona state lawmaker says he will resign his legislative seat to take a job with the U.S. Department of State

Sen. Jack Jackson Jr. says he'll resign his District 7 seat on July 12 to serve as senior adviser and liaison for Native American affairs.

That's a position in the Bureau of Oceans and International Environment and Scientific Affairs within the department's Office of Environmental Quality and Transboundary Issues.

The 54-year-old Window Rock Democrat Jackson was re-elected to a second term in January. He served one term in the House a decade ago.
