WOODFORD COUNTY, KY (WAVE) - Authorities are looking into a possible case of animal neglect after a discovery at a horse farm.

According to Woodford County Animal Control, nearly two dozen horses were found living in deplorable conditions on Monday.

Most of the horses were found inside a barn on Hopewell Farm, a property leased by the owners of the horses. Authorities say many of the horses appeared malnourished and their stalls were filled with manure.

The Woodford County Sheriff's office says the horses were under the care of Wayne and Duane Murty, who are in the process of moving the horses to Bourbon County since Hopewell Farm will soon be sold at an auction.

Officials say the state vet was called in and two horses were humanely euthanized.
