LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The interstate ramp from I-64 East to I-65 South will close the night of Monday, July 15. The closing was originally scheduled to begin on July 8. However, it has been pushed back.
This is the only ramp closure for 2013 in connection with the new Downtown Crossing. It will be closed for approximately 1,000 days.
There will be several one-night closures before that date to prepare for the ramp closure.
On Tuesday, July 7, the left lane of the ramp from I-64 West to I-65 South will be closed from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. Wednesday morning. Also that evening, the right lane of I-65 South at the Jefferson Street exit ramp and the left lane of the exit ramp will be closed from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. Wednesday morning.
In addition to the closures needed for the new Downtown Crossing, there will also be lane closures needed for the East End Crossing.
Traffic along U.S. Hwy 42 at the Gene Snyder Freeway in Prospect will be blocked for up to 20 minutes at a time daily from 10 am until 2:30pm July 9th through July 12th. This is due to blasting work being done on the new tunnel approach.
River Road will also be affected with traffic being taken down to one lane on Tuesday, July 9th, just east of the Harrods Creek Bridge. One lane traffic will be in place between 9 am and 3 PM.
According to those with the Bridges Project-Downtown Crossing, the I-64 east ramp closure, which will continue into 2016, is necessary to maintain the flow of traffic on I-64, I-65 and I-71 during the project.
