Floyds Knobs, IN (WAVE) - He has won a state title and been named the Gatorade Track and Field Male Athlete of the Year in Indiana, after his senior season, now former Floyd Central High School star discus thrower, Codie Hamsley, has his sites set on much loftier goals.
Hamsley started throwing the discus in middle school when his dad, a former discus thrower himself, Kirk Hamsley introduced him to the sport. "I came back from church camp, and my dad walks in with this disc, and he was like 'you want to throw this', and I was like, what is it?" said Codie.
Since then, Codie has gone on to win state runner up in the event in his junior year, and the state title in his senior year. He has signed to play at the University of Louisville where his goal is to win a national title, and more. "2016, my junior year of college, I'm hoping to make the Olympic Trials, and hopefully, go to Rio. That's my goal," said the freshman to be.
New U of L track and field coach, Dale Cowper wants Codie to bulk up, and once he does, both coach and dad feel the sky's the limit. "WIth the tools he's got, and the ability, he could be really good." said Kirk Hamsley.
