LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A little rain never hurt anyone. That was the attitude of people who hung out at the Waterfront Independence Festival all night long on the Fourth of July.

The waterfront had its share of water on the holiday.

"We brought ponchos, umbrellas," said Cindy Hill, who attended the festival.

The rain may have kept the usual large crowd away, but it didn't keep everyone away, especially those who were pushed into going.

"I was a little hesitant at first," said Rob Demartin, "but then they dragged me down here, and I'm glad they did because we are having a great time."

With the right gear and a little creativity, Carmen Young and her family made sure to stay dry. "We were just trying to stay out the rain, just in case it gets bad," said Young. "We didn't want it to ruin our day. It's the Fourth of July, and we are going to celebrate."

"I love Independence Day," said Denise White. "By the way, red, white and blue are my favorite colors."

White had two reasons to celebrate. "Today is my birthday," said White. She had fun despite the gloomy weather. "Are you kidding? I'm 55. I ain't got time to play."

For some, it was food and drink that brought them out. For others, it was the music.

"We came to hear J.C. Brooks and Uptown Sounds," said Hill.

"We were determined to get out here," said Young. "This is our day off, and we are going to make the best of it."

The event was free of charge. The fireworks closed out the show right after Kool and the Gang performed.
