BARDSTOWN, KY (WAVE) - The K-9 partner of fallen Bardstown Police Officer Jason Ellis and Ellis' fellow officers have been providing comfort for his widow and children.

Officer Ellis' K-9, Figo, is now retired and living with Amy Ellis and their two boys Parker and Hunter.

Bardstown Police Detective Chris Smith explained Figo, "He runs around the house and when they try to go to bed he's in the bedroom with them, for the fist time he actually jumped on the bed."

Smith explained, "He's kind of following the kids around and getting a little protective which is good, a lot of times when people come over he follows them around. She gets a little jealous she wants him to follow her around more."

Bardstown officers have also been taking turns spending the night with the family.

Officer Ellis was shot and killed when he got out of his car to remove debris from the Bluegrass Parkway on May 25.

His killer remains at large.
