Officials advise motorist to avoid driving in high waters

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Heavy rain and flooding caused several different problems for motorists around the tri-state during the weekend.

High water covered a portion of Reading Road near Sycamore Avenue early Saturday morning. The water level was so high that it caused a motorist to stall out.

Reading Fire Chief Kevin Kaiser says drivers should try to avoid flooded roads.

"You got to be careful with a lot of rain that we get at a fast time, the roadway gets a lot of water in it –you want to be careful," said Chief Kaiser.

High water also made driving hazardous along a section of I-75 North downtown.

Near Highland and Dorchester, a man was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries after a giant tree toppled onto his Cadillac.

Police and fire officials advise motorists not to stray out into water because floods can stall a vehicle. Once the vehicle stalls, drivers can damage their vehicles and possibly drown.

"You don't know how the grades of the road change and like in this case there's a dip there you could easily stall your car out, flood it and cause several thousands in damage to your vehicle....especially in fast moving water you could also become a victim of that fast moving water yourself," said Chief Kaiser.
