JCPS board votes to raise drop out age

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – The Jefferson County Public School board has voted in favor of raising the drop out age for the district.

On Monday the board voted to raise the drop out age from 16 years old to 18 years old.

The vote came after a push in Frankfort by First Lady Jane Beshear to pass a law to raise the drop out age statewide. Her initial effort failed and lawmakers decided to leave the decision up to each individual school district.

The change will go into effect during the 2015-2016 school year.
