Driver identified in fatal south Nashville crash

Officials have identified the man who died after a collision at a busy intersection Monday night in south Nashville.

Keith Verge, 47, of Neill Avenue, died in the wreck at the corner of Chestnut Street and Second Avenue South.

Investigators said Verge was driving a 1993 Buick Roadmaster west on Chestnut Street when he made a right turn onto Second Avenue, colliding with a 2002 Nissan Xterra, which was traveling north on Second Avenue and had the green light.

Verge and the driver of the Xterra, 48-year-old Amilcar Gamez, were both transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where Verge later died.

Police said Gamez's injuries were not life-threatening.

Investigators said the likely contributing factor to this crash was a failure to yield on the part of Verge, and they said there was no evidence of alcohol or drug involvement.
