NEW ALBANY, IN (WAVE) - The first of three murder trials for William Clyde Gibson is moving forward with the trial for the death of Christine Whitis scheduled for October 21.

In addition to the April 2012 murder of Whitis, 75, of Clarksville, Gibson is accused of murdering Stephanie Kirk, 35, of Charlestown, Indiana, in 2012, and Karen Hodella, 45, of Port Orange, Florida, in 2002.

During a July 9 court hearing it was announced that 500 jurors have been selected as the base for the final jury pool. The potential jurors will be randomly selected into panels of 50 and will come to the City-County Building in New Albany every morning and afternoon for three days.

In each session, the jury pool member will be questioned on pre-trial publicity, their stance on the death penalty and hardships they may have about serving on the murder trial.

"We're looking for people that can follow the law and that can impose the death penalty under certain circumstances," said prosecutor Steve Owen.
