Zoo train inspected after mechanical issue

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Passengers riding the train at the Louisville Zoo had to exit due to a mechanical issue Thursday.

Kyle Shepherd with the Louisville Zoo confirmed just before 4 p.m. one of the train engineers noticed a drop in air pressure.

"On these trains any air pressure loss activates the breaks automatically and so all failsafe systems operated the way they should," she explained.

The train was stopped and the passengers were let off.

The train reopened to the public on July 2, 2013 after a four year hiatus after one of their trains derailed in June 2009, causing 22 people on board to be taken to area hospitals.

Shepherd said the zoos maintenance staff would be check both trains.
