LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The East End bridge will not be exempt from tolls.

The tunnel bridge connecting Prospect, Kentucky to Utica, Indiana is expected to be built by October 2016.

Two important things for drivers to keep in mind are that drivers from U.S. 42 will not be able to get on the bridge from there, they will have to get on in the Cloverleaf area where the Gene Snyder Freeway meets Interstate 71.

Crews started blasting two weeks ago to clear rock for the tunnel that will connect the Gene Snyder Freeway to the new bridge.

East End Bridge Spokesman Dan Hartlage explained, "They'll be here throughout the rest of this year and into next year to some extent. They'll be here throughout the rest of this year and into next year to some extent."

He also said drivers from Indiana will not be able to get off of U.S. 42 once the span opens because there will not be enough space for the additional on and off ramps at U.S. 42.
