LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Groups gathered at the Waterfront to kick off of Forecastle Friday afternoon.

Through Sunday night, Louisville will host some big musical names including The Black Keys, Alabama Shakes, Old Crow Medicine Show, the Avvett Brothers, Robert Plant and Grace Potter.

But along with musicians, the city will host a lot of out of town guests.

Kasey Staten is one of those guests. She said she's been to Louisville before, but it was Forecastle that drew her back, "A three-day festival with live music and fun people around, it would be a good weekend."

Forecastle Spokesperson Holly Weyler said the festival expects to double its attendance to around 70,000 this year, "We grew from a very small event at Tyler Park 11 years ago and now we're here at Waterfront Park."

Weyler said more than half the people attending the festival are from out of town and it's not just the vendors inside the gates that will benefit, businesses are putting their best foot forward.

"Local businesses are really pumped up and energized welcoming these crowds in," she explained.

Staten said her and her friend said they plan to take full advantage of the Derby City during their stay, "I think Louisville has a lot of good places to eat. We've heard wild eggs is really good so we'll of course hit breakfast there, a little shopping."

So while the music may be the main draw even when it stops, Louisville will hopefully have lots of good memories and a few return visitors.
