LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Roller coasters are coming down at the former Kentucky Kingdom.

On Friday, crews began dismantling the Grease Lightning coaster.

Kentucky Kingdom will reopen May 24, 2014 according to its newest operator Ed Hart.

Thursday, Hart announced that he and his partners with Kentucky Kingdom LLLP have signed a lease agreement with the Kentucky State Fair Board.

Among his plans for the park Hart said he will add a new roller coaster and double the size of the water park. He also plans to renovate other existing rides at the park, including the Twisted Twins which will run again in 2015 as T2.

Hart agreed to invest up to $2.5 million each year for as many as 70 years.
