LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Dozens of people across Kentuckiana took to the streets with memorials for Trayvon Martin and to express their opposition to the verdict.

The 'not guilty' verdict in the George Zimmerman trial mobilized citizens in Louisville, Jeffersonville and Indiana to action.

"Our objective today is for us to stand together Black, white, yellow, purple, green,  whatever color we are because, we all need each other," said Pastor Seth Petway.

At a rally on 32nd and Broadway, one person called the death of Trayvon Martin, a 'legal lynching.'  They said the verdict sends the wrong message to society.

Jeffersonville Rally Organizer Candace Crawford said, "Someone basically stalks you, hunts you down, attacks you and kills you and it's your fault. Nothing happens to them. "

Activists say the trial's outcome illuminates the need for work to be done in our justice system.
Supporter Theresa Thomas said, "I trusted the criminal justice system and I feel that they failed, they failed Trayvon Martin's parents, to every extent."

Supporters hope the rallies will promote community healing.

"The relationships and community strengthening is what's going to help us ultimately get us past racism and hopefully help us change some of the policies that are oppressive," said Supporter Michael Poindexter.

Community Activist Christopher 2X announced Sunday that there will be another memorial in honor of Trayvon Martin on Wednesday at Waterfront Park.  The rally will start at 7pm.  The memorial will be a silent reflection and balloon release.  Attendees are encouraged to bring one black balloon.
