Child drowns in Patoka Lake

BIRDSEYE, IN (WAVE) - A little boy who was missing after swimming from a boat was found drowned in Patoka Lake on Monday.

According to Indiana Conservation Officers, around 3 p.m. several boats were anchored together near the Little Patoka Boat Ramp. Officers said the 3-year-old boy had been swimming from a boat and was wearing a life jacket, but took the jacket off after he got out of the water because he was cold.

When one of the boats left the group family members realized the boy was missing. Officers said he was last seen sitting on a cooler near the edge of a boat.

Indiana Conservation Officer divers found the boy at 4:08 p.m. and he was taken to Harrison County Hospital by Crawford County EMS personnel where he was pronounced dead.

Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating the drowning.
