LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Around 8 a.m. Wednesday officers were called to the Captain D's in the 2900 block of Breckenridge Lane in Hikes Point on a report of a robbery in progress. According to LMPD, the gunman demanded money from the employees and sped off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

As the suspect was fleeing the scene, police say he struck another vehicle while heading west on Hikes Lane causing minor injuries to that driver. The car the robbery suspect was in suffered heavy damage in the accident.  Dwight Mitchell, a Louisville Metro Police spokesperson, said the suspect abandoned the car on Hikes Lane and ran through the yards of several residents.

"They saw that individual cut through the houses. They were able to arrest that individual in the parking lot of Canaan Christian Church in the 2800 block of Hikes Lane," said Mitchell. "He's been taken to University Hospital as a result of him running."

Lisa Mattingly woke to officers knocking on her door. She said an officer told her the suspect had been in her back yard.

"His bag of money is hanging on the fence so he had to jump the fence," Mattingly said. "I looked down and I said, ‘oh there's a gun.'"

LMPD has identified the robbery suspect as James Louis Beverly, Jr. In addition to robbery, Beverly, 19, is charged with assault for the injuries caused during the traffic accident while he fled.

Police have also arrested a second person, Jahvany Marquis Derisier, in connection with the robbery. Derisier, 22, was an employee of the restaurant and lives at the same address as Beverly. Police said the car Beverly was using belonged to Derisier's girlfriend.

Both men were booked into Louisville Metro Corrections. They are expected to be arraigned on Thursday morning.
