Man convicted in beating death facing drug charges

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A man placed on probation after he was charged in connection to a beating death was arrested on drug charges.

According to court documents, Justin Werner was taken into custody on June 18 after multiple pills and bags of marijuana were found in his possession.

He was charged with trafficking in controlled substance involving heroin, trafficking in controlled substance involving an unspecified drug, trafficking in marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Werner was one of the three men charged in the May 30, 2010 beating death of Bryan Stevenson in the parking lot of Barbara Lee's Kitchen. Stevenson was in Louisville for a softball tournament.

Werner was convicted of assault under extreme emotional disturbance and sentenced to five years probation in Stevenson's death.

He is due back in court in August.
