LOUISVILLE KY (WAVE) – The Belle of Louisville's little sister, The Spirit of Jefferson, will celebrate her 50th birthday Saturday, July 27. All are invited to celebrate The Spirit's half century of cruising. Beginning July 22 through July 27, all passengers will share her birthday cake as part of the celebration.
In 1963, The Spirit of Jefferson, originally named The Mark Twain, began her journey by cruising in New Orleans. In 1970, her name was changed to The Huck Finn, where she cruised under the watchful eye of the St. Louis Arch. She enjoyed her time on the Mississippi until 1995 when she came to Louisville. Her name was changed once again to honor both her new county and President Thomas Jefferson. She was officially named The Spirit of Jefferson in 1996.
Climb aboard and join in on the 50th birthday celebration. The Spirit of Jefferson will be cruising Tuesday and Saturday for dinner and sightseeing from 7:00-9:00 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday for lunch and sightseeing from noon-2:00 p.m. and there is a Harbor History cruise Saturday at 3:00 p.m. For reservations call (502) 574-2992 or visit www.belleoflouisville.org
