BATH COUNTY, KY (WAVE) - A woman who was presumed dead after she disappeared into a swollen eastern Kentucky creek is alive and well.

A family member said he was driving Gloria Means home when she got upset then jumped from his truck into Slate Creek, located in Bath County.

Water rescue crews deployed around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, but eventually suspended the search due to darkness and high swift running water.

Reporter Adam Winer of NBC affiliate WLEX was on the scene and said he heard the woman calling out to him from the other side of the creek just before 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Winer reported Means swam to him and he wrapped her in a sheet and towel then walked her to safety.

Means told Winer she had a "rough night," and had slept in the woods, cold and naked.

Means was checked out by a paramedic and did not require a hospital visit. The reason she was in the water and how she ended up naked remain unclear.
