ELIZABETHTOWN, KY (WAVE) - Amanda Smith told us about an Elizabethtown family in need of help to build a new room for a 14-year-old boy with cerebral palsy.
Chad Engle is cared for by his grandmother, Carol Engle. Chad has never walked.
Habitat for Humanity's Home Repair Team tried to modify the existing bathroom in the Engles' small house, but it concluded the only practical solution is to build a new room onto the house with a roll-in shower in which Chad can be bathed on a gurney. The materials for the room cost $12,000, so Amanda and WAVE 3 News Anchor Dawne Gee headed to the Engles' home to Pass the Cash.
Watch the video to see Carol's emotional reaction to receiving a surprise $300 toward the Chad's Room project, plus an additional $40 donated by the people of Elizabethtown who stopped to say hello to Dawne while she was in town.
