RIPLEY COUNTY, IN (WAVE) - Indiana State Police are warning residents that an old telephone scam is making a comeback.

The latest target is a couple in Ripley County. According to police, the couple received a call from a woman who identified herself as their granddaughter and claimed to need bail money to get out of jail in Canada.

The couple wired her $2,000 and the woman called again asking for more cash. The couple then learned their real granddaughter was at home.

Police suggest that anyone who receives such a call should write down the phone number if they have caller id, ask questions only their real grandchild could answer and then call their grandchild.

 They shouldn't wire any money.
