'Person of interest' named in the murder of Amy Lord

Three days after Wilbraham native Amy Lord was stabbed to death in Boston, police have named 28-year-old Edwin Alemany as the only "person of interest" in her murder.

Police also say they are not looking for any other suspects.

Boston Police are not classifying Alemany as a suspect as of Friday night as they wait for DNA evidence, but Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis said things are progressing.

"We are confident and comfortable that we're on the right track in this case," said Commissioner Davis.

Alemany is accused of attacking two other women in South Boston this week.

However, an internal investigation is being done to see if Alemany should have been taken off the streets earlier.

An incident reported back in September 2012 states that a woman was attacked by a man during the early morning hours in Roxbury.

She was knocked unconscious, but it was what she found when she woke up that have police taking a second look.

"She had a wallet and identification belonging to Edwin Alemany in her possession," said Davis.

According to the Commissioner, the detective working the case attempted to question Alemany, but could not locate him and felt there was not enough probable cause for an arrest because the woman gave a vague description of her attacker.

But now Davis says that detective was wrong.

"It's clear at this time, after reviewing all of the evidence, they did have probable cause to arrest the suspect in September," said Davis.

A new detective has been placed on that case as the internal investigation continues.

"I'm very disappointed in what the detective did in this case," said Davis.

Davis also said the Boston Police are moving full force at bringing Amy's killer to justice.

"I understand the upset this is causing in the community. I had a conversation with Mrs. Lord today clearly her family has been devastated by this random assault," said Davis.

Alemany is undergoing a court-ordered 20 day psychiatric evaluation at Bridgewater State Hospital in Bridgewater, MA.

Funeral arrangements for Lord have been finalized. Visiting hours will be held Monday, July 29 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Sampson's Chapel of The Acres Funeral Home on Tinkham Road in Springfield.

A funeral mass will be on Tuesday starting at 10 a.m. at Saint Cecilia's Church on Main Street in Wilbraham, MA. A private burial will follow.
