Man dead after car smashes into auto garage

NEW ALBANY, IN (WAVE) – One person is dead and an auto garage lays in pieces after a car slammed through a concrete wall.

The accident happened at Alan's Automotive on Highway 111 at the intersection of Corydon Pike in New Albany early Sunday morning around 3:45 a.m.

The Floyd County Combined Accident Reconstruction Team (CART) was called to the scene to investigate the crash. Officers said the driver was speeding down south 111 and lost control in a curve, sending the car into the building at a high rate of speed.

The car, a 2013 Ford Mustang, went through a wall, damaging the structural support and knocking a car inside the building off of a lift. It took police several hours to extract the car from the garage because of concerns that the building would collapse.

Police confirmed the driver of the car died as a result of the crash. The name of the person killed has not yet been released.
