LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A Louisville cemetery is getting some much needed attention from some good samaritans.

Eastern Cemetery, next to Cave Hill off Baxter Avenue, is full of history and also full of disrepair.

A group called "Friends of Eastern Cemetery" went to the site with their rakes, edgers and mowers to clean up. There is a lot of work ahead of the group due to headstones that have been overturned and the lack of any proper routine maintenance.

"This cemetery needs a full restoration. It's basically been unkept since the late 80s early 90s, said Andy Harple, one of the founders of Friends of Eastern Cemetery.

"With that comes typical wear and tear. Most cemeteries have staff to go around and do restoration work on site everyday."

The problem at Eastern is that there isn't one sole person responsible for the cemetery. It's in the hands of several agencies such as Dismas Charities and the Attorney General's office.
