LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A 911 call of gunshots being fired led officers to find a victim lying in the road, wounded from the bullets.

It happened Monday morning, just after midnight in the 1800 block of W. Oak Street near Dixie Highway and Simmons University.

The male victim died a short time after being rushed to University Hospital.

It's the latest crime in what has been one of the most violent weekends this year.

Before dawn Saturday, a witness set to testify in a federal murder trial was gunned down near E. Broadway and Clay Street.

A southern Indiana man has been arrested in the shooting death of a 17-year-old Waggener student that happened around 12:30 a.m. Sunday near 35th and Broadway.

And around 3:30 Sunday morning, a man was found shot dead behind a gas station near Churchill Downs.

"At the point the previous ones (from the weekend) don't seem to be connected at all. We're still early in our investigation," said LMPD spokeswoman Alicia Smiley. "It's a little too soon to rule anything out that this might pertain to."

"It can be very taxing on them," Smiley said in regard to the increased workload for homicide detectives. "They're going to work each of them as diligently as they possibly can."

Police have no leads in the latest case, Smiley said, and detectives are interviewing neighbors.

Anyone with information is asked to call (502) 574-LMPD, the department's anonymous tip line.
