LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A mom and her boyfriend sit in jail charged with beating her 6-month-old girl to death more than two years ago.

Louisville Metro police arrested Whitney Phillips, 24, and James McElroy, 50, on Thursday. They said Phillips and McElroy brought Ariah Phillips to Kosair Children's Hospital on February 7, 2011. She had multiple injuries from a beating. Police said she died at the hospital from head injuries. "The injuries were inflicted by both Phillips and McElroy." Police won't say how the couple did it.

James Moore said he is Ariah's father and found out about the two arrests via the news, "My daughter got beaten to death and I wasn't there to protect her."

Moore put all the blame on McElroy whose criminal history, according to court records, includes a December charge of engaging in organized crime. "I know Whitney. She's not a mean person. She's not a bad person. Nobody's perfect, but I don't believe that she would do anything to hurt her own kids."

Police charged both Phillips and McElroy with murder and added three counts of criminal abuse for Phillips because they said they have dealt with her in the past.
