LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - For many of us, our first job was a summer job.
It helped us build skills, personally grow and better transition into adulthood and future jobs.
There is no substitute for real-world work experience and lessons learned on the job benefited us for life.
We salute all who contributed to the SummerWorks and Project One programs this summer that enabled more than 1,700 people aged 21 and younger to work at more than 80 businesses and nonprofit organizations this summer.
The experience was enriching for both the job providers and those that got the jobs.
Earning a paycheck is helpful no matter what the age, but is especially meaningful in our formative years.
Recent announcements of new jobs coming to the area from Amazon and Catamaran will add to the more than 12,000 jobs currently open in the region.
Ultimately, the aim is to convert the summer job into permanent employment.
