LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A St. Matthews park was reopened to the public after being evacuated due to a report of a suspicious package on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Dennis McDonald with the St. Matthews Police Department, Brown Park, located at the intersection of Browns Lane and Kresge Way, closed around 4:10 p.m. after a person walking near the park noticed the package.

Police determined the package was suspicious due to its appearance and placement inside of the park and the Louisville Metro Police Department's bomb squad was called to the scene.

According to police, although it is not known what was inside of the package, it was not explosive and the surrounding homes were not in any immediate danger.

No other structures, including Baptist Hospital East, were evacuated.
