LEXINGTON, KY (WAVE) - Two sisters are hit by a car while walking home from buying school supplies.

Around 3:30 Thursday morning, two girls were walking home on US-27 in Lexington. They didn't have time to get out of the way of the car and were both hit from behind.

Chantelle Napier, 12, had broken bones and a collapsed lung. Her sister, 20-year-old Chelsea  broke her legs.

Police said it appears the driver fell asleep behind the wheel. Apparently he had just gotten off work and veered off the edge of the road when he fell asleep.

The girls are now at UK hospital.
