Former sheriff sentenced to time in prison

BARREN COUNTY, KY (WAVE) - Former Barren County Sheriff Chris Eaton will spend the next 18 months of his life in prison.

Eaton and former deputy sheriff Adam Minor were charged with assault and witness tampering after the arrest of Billy Randall Stinnet in 2010.

The jury acquitted Eaton of the assault charges, but did find him guilty on two counts of witness tampering.

Adam Minor made a plea deal with federal prosecutors and was sentenced to two years probation.

Eaton's sentence could have been much worse since prosecutors were asking the judge for 45 to 57 months.

"They're tough people and I think they've held up well under the circumstances," said Guthrie True, Eaton's attorney. "This is difficult. Even for the strongest people it can break you down."

The former sheriff now has 45 to 60 days before he much report to serve his sentence.
