SELLERSBURG, IN (WAVE) – Students from some West Clark Community Schools are going to be a little late in getting home today after a train derailment.
The derailment, which happened at Highway 403 and U.S. 31 around 2:30 p.m., does not involve hazardous materials. However, Dr. John Reed, a West Clark Community Schools spokesperson, said school buses are having to detour around the area.
The buses involved in the detour are from Silver Creek Primary, Silver Creek Elementary, Silver Creek Middle, and Silver Creek High schools.
School officials say they will be able to get all students home safely, but the arrival times will be later than normal.
Crews were able to separate the rail cars and move them to allow Highway 403 to be reopened. According to Sellersburg dispatch, Highway 403 was reopened to traffic at 3:53 p.m.
