Study: Filing for divorce can trigger violence

(FOX19) -

Filing for divorce can trigger violence.

Statistics show that from 1993 to 2010, separated females experienced higher rates of intimate partner violence compared to married or divorced females.

According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Almost one-third of female homicide victims that are reported in police records are killed by an intimate partner. On average, more than three women and one man are murdered by their intimate partners in this country daily.

Most intimate partner homicides occur between spouses, although boyfriends/girlfriends have committed about the same number of homicides in recent years.

According to the FBI, firearm related homicides are down 39 percent between 1993 and 2011, according to a new FBI report released in May.

The study states that only 31 percent of aggravated assaults involve firearms.
