LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The woman charged with murder after police say she left her newborn daughter in a trash can at a Louisville Kohl's store was a store employee who remained inside the women's restroom for a lengthy amount of time before leaving work the day she gave birth, Louisville Metro Police said on Thursday.

Jessica Price, 29, was arrested Wednesday night. In addition to the murder charge, Price also was charged with tampering with physical evidence and abuse of a corpse. Investigators said Price's baby appeared to be full-term and healthy, but died as a result of an intentional act that "caused the victim's corpse to be treated in an inhumane manner." The cause of death has not been determined. Police said during a Thursday morning news conference they wanted to make sure the baby was alive at birth before charging Price with a crime.

Police and EMS were notified of an unresponsive newborn at the Kohl's store on Standiford Plaza Drive in Hillview August 8. Investigators said the baby was discovered by a person changing the trash bag in the women's restroom.

Police said Price admitted having concealed her pregnancy, giving birth inside the restroom, then disposing of the body and other evidence of the birth.
