LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Kentuckians from across the Commonwealth gathered Thursday morning at the Kentucky Exposition Center for the annual Commodities Breakfast.

Plates at the breakfast, which is the kickoff to the Kentucky State Fair, were filled high with some of Kentucky's finest catfish, eggs, steak, pork and more.

"100% of the food here this morning came from Kentucky farmers," said James Comer, Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner. "There's a huge ‘buy local food' movement going on in Louisville, Lexington it's an opportunity for us in agriculture."

Among those in attendance was Gov. Steve Beshear who said this is the time to celebrate Kentucky's agriculture.

"This has always been a cornerstone of our economy, it always will be, and it's so important," said Beshear. "We feed the world out of Kentucky, we're going to have a lot of young people here today and they're the future farmers."

"A lot of people don't realize Kentucky is the fourth largest agricultural state in the country," said Attorney General Jack Conway. "We have eggs, we have pork, we have all sorts of breakfast items."

The Kentucky State Fair runs through Sunday, August 25.
