LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A man wounded in shooting early Sunday in Louisville's Beechmont neighborhood has died from his wounds and police say the person who shot him will face upgraded charges.

The shooting happened around 4:15 a.m. in the 100 block of Francis Avenue. The victim, a Hispanic man in his early 20's, was rushed to University Hospital where he died.

An arrest in the case was made just over five hours after the shooting. Michael Murphy, 47, was taken into custody after police tracked down his car at Southside Drive and Evangeline Avenue.

Louisville Metro Police said Murphy and the victim knew each other. The name of the victim has yet to be released by the Jefferson County Coroners Office.

Murphy is currently being held at Louisville Metro Corrections charged with assault. A LMPD spokesperson said that charge will be upgraded.
