LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Two additional suspects are in custody in connection to a deadly shooting Monday night in Pleasure Ridge Park, Louisville Metro Police said on Friday. One of them was hit by police gunfire during a shootout Thursday night.

Jevon Curry, 21, and Charles Washington, 20, are charged with 1st degree murder, robbery and burglary following the shooting death of Paul Barber.

Barber, 21, was gunned down around 10:00 p.m. Monday when a group of armed men broke into an apartment in the 6800 block of Crawford Crossing Place off Dixie Highway. Police said Barber was trying to run out of the apartment when he was killed. His one-week-old son and three other adults, including Barber's fiance, were inside the apartment when the incident happened.

Police said Curry was among four people inside a car near the McDonald's at Greenwood and Terry Roads in PRP Thursday during a shootout with a pair of officers conducting surveillance on him. During a Friday morning news conference, Louisville Metro Police Sgt. Robert Biven said Curry opened fire on the officers as they approached him in the car.

"They did return fire," Biven said of the officers. "At that time, the suspect in that case did suffer multiple gunshot wounds. They are non-life-threatening. [Curry] is currently in the hospital receiving treatment for those wounds."

Biven said a female passenger inside the car suffered a gunshot wound to the hand during the exchange of gunfire Thursday. She was treated at a hospital and released. Biven said police do not currently consider her a suspect.

Neither of the officers involved in the shooting suffered any injuries. Both have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal police investigation, which is standard procedure after an officer-involved shooting.

An officer arrested Washington Thursday afternoon in a separate incident in which he was pulled over at Johnsontown Road and Greenbelt Highway for failing to wear a seat belt, Biven said. The officer recognized Washington as a suspect in Monday's homicide.

At the time of their separate arrests, both Curry and Washington were armed with handguns, according to Biven.

Earlier on Thursday, police arrested Shakahakeen Boyd, 21, in connection to Barber's murder. Biven said Barber's murder was not random and that the Crawford Crossing Place apartment was targeted because of drugs.
